Make a great, hand-made gift for Moms and Grandmas! Bath Bombs can be popped in bath water for a soothing and relaxing soak! Choose their favorite scent - lilac, jasmine, vanilla, patchouli, etc - and use an essential oil or fragrance oil with this scent. Or try an herbal combination - lavender and rose for relaxation, eucalyptus and rosemary to energize or a combination of citrus scents to refresh!
This recipe is courtesy of Christina Blume, Herbalist, who teaches many classes here at Tagawa. The bath bomb recipe is featured in her upcoming class, “Mother’s Day Herbal Gifts” on Tues., April 20 from 12 Noon-2pm. You’ll actually make bath bombs in class, plus watch demonstrations of how to make foot scrub, manicure polish, cologne spritzers, sleep pillows and more! Students take home an extensive hand-out plus the bath bombs made in class. Materials fee is $25. Please call to register at 303-690-4722 ext. 100 or visit our class page to register!

Easy Bath Bombs
- 1 part citric acid (available at Wild Oats or other natural products store)
- 3 parts baking soda
- Witch hazel (available at Wild Oats, Vitamin Cottage of other natural products store)
- Essential oils or fragrance oils of your choice (essential oils are available at Tagawa, fragrance oils at a natural products store)
- Soap or other molds to make bath bombs into pretty shapes
Weigh out the baking soda and citric acid in the ratios above. Dump them together into a bucket or large bowl. Get out all the lumps with a fork or spoon (crushing lumps if necessary).
Add your essential oils or fragrance oils drop by drop until you get the desired scent. Mix well. Christina puts hers in a large plastic zip lock bag to speed the mixing/kneading process.
Mist the mixture with witch hazel, stir in well. Keep misting and mixing until you get a consistency that will stick together in your hand. It doesn't take much witch hazel,so be careful.
When mixture is the right consistency, press mixture into molds firmly, packing down into the mold.
Turn molds over on a hard surface - if it stays together without breaking, you have it right. If it breaks apart, put it back in the bowl and spritz a little more witch hazel and mix in, then pack back in mold and turn over to test again.
After awhile you will get a feel for this. Let dry overnight. If the bombs get “blisters”, cut back on the amount of witch hazel.
