Christmas Trees, Greens & Porch Pots

Fresh-cut Christmas Trees

Did you know… that our Christmas Trees are displayed in water-filled tree stands in unheated greenhouses, which preserve the trees’ quality and freshness? All our trees are given a fresh cut at the base when they are delivered, and placed in Christmas Tree stands filled with water so they can begin ‘drinking’ to keep them fresh. Come visit our Christmas tree “Forest” for the scent and vision of the holiday season!

We’ll make a fresh cut on your tree before we load it for you, and you’ll receive a free bottle of tree preservative with each tree purchased!  Usually we carry the following Christmas trees:

The Fraser Fir with its fragrant and sturdy boughs makes an excellent tree to decorate. The needles are an attractive silver-green and soft to the touch.

The Noble Fir also has sturdy branches that are spaced to make it easy to hang ornaments. The needles are deep green and are not too sharp.

The Douglas Fir has soft shiny green needles and dense branching making it an attractive tree.

Our wreaths, spruce tops, fresh evergreen boughs and garlands are displayed in similar conditions as our Christmas trees and re-hydrated frequently. Besides keeping the greens fresh, this makes for comfortable shopping while shopping, protected from the wind, snow and other winter conditions! Each year, our fresh-cut evergreen selection features many new styles of wreaths and door swags, decorated and ready to be hung on your door or any place that needs a holiday touch.

To keep your cut green and trees fresh for as long as possible, display them in a cool, shaded area out of direct sun. Misting helps prevent drying, and, in the case of centerpieces, if the ends of the cut evergreens are in water or floral foam, they will last longer. Be sure to use Wilt Stop™ on cut evergreens, spruce tops, wreaths, etc. This product uses a natural wax to slow down the speed at which the plant/cut evergreen loses moisture. Remember, that fresh-cut evergreens are a renewable resource, and many can be recycled by your local municipality (check with your city website) or used in your own garden as a mulch that will protect your perennials and other plants.

Trees and fresh greens arrive approx. the day after Thanksgiving, sometimes before, so be sure to call us at 303-690-4722 to check on availability.

Living Christmas Trees

Potted Christmas trees are a special way to commemorate each year’s holiday season while adding a beautiful evergreen to your landscape! The latest information from Planttalk Colorado (a cooperative effort amongst CSU Extension, Denver Botanic Gardens and the Green Industry) reminds us that the final planting hole should be dug before the ground freezes (by early December). The tree can be kept in the garage for a few days before it comes indoors for the Holiday, with seven days the maximum time indoors. Then back to the garage for a few days, then planted. Holiday Evergreen Porch Pots featuring Spruce Tops!

Porch Pots are fresh or living evergreens & holiday decor creatively displayed in decorative containers near the front door or on the patio or balcony.

A few years ago, we were the first in Denver to debut the mid-western tradition of Spruce Tops (beautiful, small spruce cuttings ) to help create beautiful porch pots! Spruce tops are a renewable resource as they can be harvested from the same tree again and again!

You can use summer container gardens to create beautiful porch pots to welcome your holiday guests! Simply remove the dried flowers and plants, level the soil to a couple inches below the rim of the pot, then insert spruce tops, other cut evergreens (white pine, shore pine and cedar work well) and stems of berries, holly or other décor. Remember to water every few weeks during the winter, and to use an anti-transpirant, such as Wilt-Stop®, to preserve freshness.
