Tagawa provides these classes as a service to our community. All classes are FREE, unless it is a hands on class and there is a materials fee.

Wed., Jul. 1 11 AM-1 PM Grandma Mimi’s Summer Day Camp Kids… Bring a parent, grandparent or other adult along with your sack lunches and join Grandma Mimi for patriotic songs and a red, white and blue planting! Mat. fee is cost of items selected for use, please register for this class! Limit: 15 children, must be accompanied by and adult.
Birthday cake & lemonade, educational petting zoo, over 20 animal rescue/adoption groups with information about their groups and animals. As organizations confirm their participation, we will list them at here. 10 AM-12 PM, Making Your Own Ceramic Pot Fountain Dee, our Tropical Plant Horticulturist and Water Gardening Expert, shows how to take simple parts—tubing, pump, pot and a few others—and make a beautiful and unique fountain for indoor or outdoor use. This is a demonstration class. 1-2 PM, Is Your Lawn Suffering from Heat Stroke? Our Lawn ‘Doctor’ John, will explain the “signs and symptoms” of this malady. “Wellness” care would include watering well and thoroughly at irregular intervals and mowing to a height of not less than 2 1/2 -3 inches. Sun., July 19 11 AM-12 PM, Spring Flowering Trees for Colorado Craig Miller Arborist and Water Conservation Specialist for Parker Water & Sanitation District. Ever wonder what trees would be best for adding some color and excitement to your springtime landscape? Join us as we cover the essentials of 35 different flowering trees, from fruit trees to crabapples, hawthorns to Horse Chestnuts. 1-3 PM, Cold Process Soap Making Christina Blume, Herbalist. Discover how easy it is to make cold process soap in your kitchen! Homemade soap contains moisturizing glycerin, free of the harsh ingredients found in commercial soaps that can be so drying and irritating to skin. Warning: soap making is addictive, but you’ll never lack for a birthday, hostess, or shower gift for families and friends. Take home 2 large bars of soap, 2 ounces oil to scent your first batch of soap and a notebook with instructions, recipes and sources for all materials needed. Sat., July 25 10 AM -12 PM, Grilling with Herbs Herb Gourmet Deb Whittaker. Herbs impart great flavor to grilled foods but their delicate, volatile oils can not tolerate direct heat. Come learn the techniques that give your grilled foods the best flavor; marinating, smoking, skewering, stuffing, bedding, basting and perhaps the best & easiest way of all; snipping, tossing, and topping with fresh herbs after grilling. No fee, but please register for this class! Cyndie Thomas, avid ponder. Yes, it is a dirty job. Next spring you’ll reap the benefit of all your hard work this fall. Critical topics such as removal of summer debris, protecting tender plants by over wintering them indoors and “adjusting your pond fish feeding schedule” will be covered.

This is your comprehensive guide to over watering, over planting, herbicide misapplication, tree abuse and inappropriate species selection.

2:30-3:30 PM, Making your Own Herb Muffins, Yum! Jill in Annuals. Learn more than just the facts about herbs! Grow ‘em in containers indoors and out. The more you pick ‘em the more they grow. Fresh herbs are excellent for cooking and baking. Discover and enjoy a sample of Jill’s yummy Parmesan Herb Muffin recip! Becca, our Children’s Gardening Enthusiast. An entertaining and practical “hands on” class with each child taking home their own jar of pickles! Mat. fee $5 (for lids, jars & misc), please register for this class! Sun., Aug. 30 Next to design, soil preparation is the most important part of successful xeriscaping and gardening. We will dish out the “dirt” on amending soil for a water efficient and healthy landscape. The most controversial and misunderstood of the Xeriscape principles is the concept of appropriate turf. Turf grasses have a place in the landscape, even in Xeriscape. We will provide you with guidance on this aspect of landscaping, as well as cover plant selection and proper grouping of plant materials in this informative class. Presented by Craig Miller, Water Conservation Specialist for Parker Water & Sanitation District. Sun., Sept. 6 Christina Blume, Herbalist. You’ll learn all you need to know about skin care from cleansing, to moisturizing and protecting. Cleansing grains, facial steams and cleansers, masques toners and astringents, acne & blemish treatments, 2 moisturizers (one for daily use that contains far more nutrients and anti-oxidants for your skin than anything available commercially and one which is profoundly healing for damaged skin and premature aging), lip balms and under eye nutrient oil.
